I’m a bit of a box lady. And a basket lady. I can’t stop buying boxes and baskets. I find them so handy to keep things organised and in one place. I have them all over my home from the bathroom to the living room.
I especially like boxes and baskets to keep my creating bits and pieces in one place. So when I came across these cute hexagon boxes, I thought they would be perfect for storing all manner of stuff.
As they were plain plywood and looked a bit blah, I thought they could do with a bit of dressing up. So I painted them and covered them in some beautiful thick wrapping paper and ended up with some fun diy craft storage boxes.
DIY craft storage boxes
Materials:

good quality wrapping paper
acrylic paint (to match you wrapping paper)
craft knife
wood glue
matt varnish
*These are the ones I bought and they ship internationally too but otherwise these boxes are available in lots of craft shops.
Paint the boxes in the colour that best matches the main colour of wrapping paper. You’ll need one coat on the outer sides – this is the bit that will be covered by the wrapping paper so the paint is there just incase the paper isn’t exactly the right size. Paint 2 coats on the top edges and inside – these are the bits that won’t be covered.
Take a piece of wrapping paper and fold it over the first panel. This fold will be your cut mark. Using your craft knife, cut your wrapping paper to this size plus an extra inch – inch and a half to fold under the box. I found it a lot easier to cover each panel individually. Use the wood glue to stick on. Finally varnish the boxes.
I didn’t get too hung up on being exacting with the pattern on each panel – the trick is to choose paper that has a small(ish) repeat pattern.
I’ve used these plywood hexagon boxes as storage for my crafty bits and pieces. But you could paint them, cover them and put them up on the wall to make really cute shelves too. How will you decorate yours?
