Love Gwen Stefani as much as I do? Then let me show you how to recreate one of her many fashion forward looks AND help you save thousands!

I love Gwen Stefani. Ever since I was a kid in junior high, I have been obsessed! I love her energy and style, and over the years, I have recreated many of her looks loooong before blogs were a thing! For example, the mini bun look she had all over her head in the 90s, the platinum blond hair, the houndstooth love, and at one time in 8th grade, I wanted to be lead vocals in a band no one ever knew about expect me and my journal. I might still know the tune and lyrics by heart! Don’t worry you are not missing out, it’s AWFUL – haha!

Her music (whether solo or with the band aka the best band ever) and style are a constant source of inspiration for me. She is one of my faves, so when I spotted her in Style Watch mag earlier this year wearing a Polka Dot, I was obsessed to recreate it! Since then, I have done some research and the photo was from a luncheon in 2015 and here dress is from Dolce & Gabbana’s 2014 Spring collection. If you haven’t figured out by now, I am a Dolce & Gabbana fan (see here). I am also OBSESSED with their latest collections – maximalism is my jam and I simply cannot get enough!

I found this gorgeous polka dot print at Pacific Fabrics and felt like the stars aligned. It was “meant to be”. Naturally, I bought the 3.5 yards left back in May and threw it on my to do list. Then I discovered something, school gets out super fast and I didn’t want to wear long sleeves for summer… BUT temps are cooling off rather quickly here in the Seattle area, and NOW is the time to make my new favorite dress!

Recreating this look is a snap, because all I really did was add a circle skirt to the hem of a Burda Style dress pattern (dress C).  I would LOVE to recreate the wheel for you and give an easy formula for circle skirts, but why would I do that when I can show you the source of circle skirt magicalness?

Enter: Handmade London. They have a truly fabulous circle skirt: HERE. The only difference is that I am not making a skirt for my waistline but instead my hem. So once you make dress C from Burda Style, you will do the following three steps:

  1. Do not hem your dress and measure the width of your hemline.
    Mine was roughly 36 inches.
  2. I went to the Circle Skirt calculator and selected: inches, full skirt, and mini.
I am basically trying to calculate the waist radius and for this example, hemline radius.

  3. From there, you can decide the length of your skirt. Cut 2, attach to dress hem and c’est fini!

It’s a relatively easy dress to whip up, I may have took more time writing out post than actually sewing it for you! The original cost of the dress was well over $2000 dollars. So needless to say, this look is a WIN and a super fun look from one of my favorite celebs! The only thing I cannot figure out is how to do DIY Gwen Stefani’s bank account, ha!

Hope you like this post! Visit me over on Instagram and give a shout out over at Facebook! I would love to see what you are up to! Thank you so much for visiting my little corner of the interwebs and have a glamorous day!
