Tennis Racket Embroidery by Danielle Clough

By now, you might be familiar with the embroidery work of Danielle Clough, aka Fiance Knowles. Known for her stitching on vintage rackets,  she has continued to wow me (and many others) with her colorful blooms spread across the stiff nets.

I think the thing that makes these pieces so successful, aside from the brilliant talent that Danielle possesses, is that the net is akin to giant jobelan fabric—with a much wider weave, obviously. So, it’d be easy to think that the racket could be treated like a cross-stitch. But Danielle does something even more unexpected in that way, which is taming this challenging canvas to create these colorful and dimensional pieces.

Check out some of Danielle’s latest embroideries on rackets, below. I’ve also included a new piece that is stitched across layers of broken and salved fishing nets.
