A true coastal haven, this home by Corben Architects fully embraces the benefits of beachside living, from a layout that blends into its surrounds to the thoughtful materials and design details showcased throughout. Let’s be clear; this is no ordinary beach retreat.

It’s about this time of year where, over at est we start to catch ourselves daydreaming of a summer holiday. Relaxing by the ocean, the sound of waves calmly crashing in the background and that blissful all-familiar smell of sea air. Sounds heavenly doesn’t it? Well our summer sojourn dreams were made even more real when we stumbled across the divine Byron Bay home called Ayindi. A home nestled amongst the picturesque landscape of Byron Bay, Ayindi is not your average beach house but more like a coastal haven.

Ayindi has it all. Its prime position makes for a mere five minute walk to Pass Beach, a fifteen minute walk into the town of Byron Bay, a fifteen minute hike to the beloved Cape Byron Bay Lighthouse and 270 degree views of Byron’s east, west and north coastline. Originally designed as part of a two lot strata, the designers maximised the surrounding views and built a new three level home, collaborating with Todd Knaus Constructions for the build. In the words of Corben Architects, “Ayindi was conceived to maximise views, space and light to create the perfect, luxury beachside holiday retreat”. And a luxury beachside holiday retreat she has become.

The house is a reflection of its surroundings. When selecting the materials for the home, the designers used local materials where possible. The local basalt stone faced blockwork paired with the white wooden cladding on the exterior ensures that the home doesn’t stand out too much from its surrounds, sitting comfortably in the subtropical landscape. Mimicking the exterior, the interior also consists of natural materials and a neutral colour palette, ensuring nothing takes over those stunning coastal views.

Space is not sparse in this home. Ayindi’s accommodation includes two large open plan living rooms, a large designer kitchen, four bedrooms, two ensuites, a family bathroom and a plunge pool with a covered deck. As Corben Architects rightly point out, “Ayindi is the quintessential beach house in one of Australia’s premier beach locations”.
