I’ve been wanting to design a cardigan with angled pocket details for a while now, and I’m so excited I chose these deep, oversized pockets for this piece because they add to the ultimate cozy vibes of this entire piece. Since this yarn is single spun, it has a fluff quality to it that makes it light and fuzzy like cotton candy but incredibly warm and plush. When I said it’s perfect for markets, I meant it. You can whip up a single skein hat or cowl in less than an hour and the luxe fiber and look of the finished piece will have them selling like hot cakes. I actually made the hat in the photos (look for a pattern out in about a month for it!) in 45 minutes right before the photo shoot because I had an extra ball and wanted an accessory in the images.

If you’ve never tried colorwork before, this is a great easy project to start with! There is a bit of shaping with the pockets and since not all beginners are confident trying out the colorwork techniques, I’ve listed this as an intermediate pattern. The techniques involved are the knit stitch, purl stitch, the k2tog, p2tog, ssk, and ssp decreases, picking up and knitting sts, and reading a color chart (although I’ve included written instructions for all the charts as well, so not totally necessary!)

Construction:
Block each piece so that they lay flat.
Seam front pieces to back at shoulders. With front/back pieces lying open and unfolded at the shoulders, place markers on either side of front and back 8”/20cm (9”/23cm, 10”/25cm) from the shoulder lines to mark underarms. Seam the top of each sleeve to the body between the markers.
Seam bottom of pockets to front pieces just above the bottom ribbing. Pin pockets to front pieces, lining up edges evenly on boht sides.
Fold sweater at shoulders. Seam up each side, going through both the pocket and front layers until top of pockets, then up to underarms and down under side of sleeves.
Collar:
With right side facing up, starting at bottom right center front corner, and with color A, pick up and K 40 (42, 44) sts up right center front (going through both the pocket and front pieces as if they were one until top of pocket), 10 (12, 14) sts across back neck, and 40 (42, 44) sts down left center front (again going through both the pocket and front piece as if they were one) for a total of 90 (96, 102) sts.
Rows 1-5: *K 1, P 1, rep from * to end of row.
Bind off.
