DIY decorative ladders for storage

Storage comes in all shapes and sizes. My philosophy with storage is the same as with everything in your home – it can be both beautiful and useful.  One of my favourite types of storage are simple decorative ladders.  They are great for creating a beautiful feature as well as storing a lot of different types of things.

Depending on the style, ladders are great for storing accessories, magazines, throws, plants, art and  more.  They’re also easy to style and make a feature of.  And most of all ladders are resistant to clutter piling up because they don’t have any or much counter space on which to dump stuff, even if you go for a shelf ladder.

There are plenty of ladders available to buy out there but they’re just as easy to make yourself for any room in your home.  I’ve picked out 7 DIY decorative ladders that are handy for so many different types of storage.  They’re all simple and minimal in design and will add a stylish and useful feature to your home.

7 DIY decorative ladders for storage:

DIY accessory organizer ladder

My accessories, especially scarves in winter, tend to become an unsightly pile on the bed or on some other surface in my bedroom.  And my necklaces, well I can’t ever find them because they’re all over  the place or in a tangled mess.  This simple and chic DIY accessory organiser may take a bit of time to make but it’ll solve all your accessory organization woes.  And it only takes a bit of floor space so will work really well in small bedrooms or narrow entryways.

DIY kitchen utensil organizer

Short on kitchen storage? We don’t always think of using ladders in the kitchen but they can be so handy for storing utensils, pots, pans, tea towels and more, without taking up much space at all.  This DIY kitchen utensil organizer is simple to make and will give you extra storage as well as a cool kitchen display.  You can go for a countertop version or if you need a floor standing one, just make a bigger version of the same.

DIY tiered plant stand

Plant lover? Are they taking over an entire room?  This DIY plant stand ladder is the answer.  The minimal design allows your plants to shine and will fit anywhere in your home.  It’s a great way to organize your smaller plants that can otherwise look cluttered if dotted all over the place.  And if you like, you could always paint the ladder stand but I love the natural wooden look to go with plants.

DIY ladder magazine rack

Magazines are one of those things that so many of us collect but do you ever look at your old magazines again?  I’m guessing your answer was no.  So instead of adding to a dusty old pile, make this stylish DIY magazine ladder so you can make a feature of your favourite ones in your living room.  And if you follow the one in one out rule after making this magazine holder, you’ll never have a big pile of magazines again.

diy hanging ladder

Is it a ladder or a noticeboard? It’s both! This DIY wood rope ladder is probably the easiest ladder to make on the list and it’s handy to use as a noticeboard in a home office or in your kitchen.  Or place it in your living room and use it to display art that you can switch up as often as you want.  You can also display magazines and books or hang throws and blankets or a mixture of all these things.  I love that it’s super simple and super versatile!

DIY wooden ladder shelf

This shelf ladder is just the perfect size for a bedside stand but I can think of so many rooms around the home where it can be used.  I’m thinking especially bathroom for all your potions and lotions – it’s just the right depth and size for even a small bathroom.  In fact it’s a great DIY ladder shelf for any small room in the home where you need a bit of extra storage as it doesn’t take much space and is super minimal in design.

DIY bathroom towel ladder

Towel rails are of course practical but towel ladders look so much more stylish and they hold many more towels.  I love the tapered look of this DIY towel ladder and the natural wood which looks great in a white bathroom.  Of course this ladder would work just as well as a blanket or scarf holder but I especially love it in the bathroom.

I love how something as basic as a ladder has been transformed in to such a stylish and useful piece of decor.  Decorative ladders have so many uses around the home and can be really handy in small spaces for that extra bit of stylish storage.
