Seriously people, what on earth did we do on long-haul flights or on slow trains before podcasts had their magical rebirth? Or even while getting ready in the morning? Yeah, I have no idea either. So, it’s long overdue to present you a lovely little list of podcasts that can but don’t have to be travel-related podcasts. On a side note: While writing up this lists I realised that most podcasts I dearly love aren’t about travels, so I’d be incredibly grateful for suggestions you might have. Feel free to go craycray in the comment section!

Call your Girlfriend

Apart from being a reminder to do just that and pick up the phone for a good old catch-up, Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow, who really are best friends in real life, decided to turn their regular calls into a podcast. Funnily (and impressively) enough, the podcast has an extremely intimate feel to it even though they talk about anything from pop culture over politics to truly personal issues. Perfect for when you come home after a long day!

Monocycle

Man Repeller must be my favourite-ever online magazine. Its editor-in-chief, Leandra Medine, who has just been sharing so much valuable and honest insights into her pregnancy, records weekly 10-minute sessions (one of her most recent episodes features Lena Dunham!) that couldn’t possibly have any more wisdom, wit or eloquence. Trust me, you will love Monocyle!

Travelogue

Condé Nast of course is the Porsche among all travel magazines. No surprise their Travelogue podcast doesn’t just feature plain destinations guides but throws up much bigger questions like scoring cheap plane tickets, overtourism, etiquettes abroad, successful road trips, you name it. Travelogue always has a group of writers debating topics weekly. Also watch out for their seasonal guides (read: summer vacation…)!

Guys we f*cked

Admittedly, I don’t listen to every single episode of Guys we f*cked because I find you need to be in a special mood for it and it’s not something to listen to on your way to work. But maybe it is for you! Anyhow, Guys we f*cked is one of the first podcasts I ever listened to. Corinne Fisher and Krystyna Hutchinson produce a hilarous and silly banter about, guess what, the complicated and beautiful minefield that are hook-ups and relationships. They are strictly anti slut-shaming and promote each woman to have whatever sex life she wants and be comfortable it.

Jason Moore is the epitome of a passionate travel expert. He has worked in the industry for more than 15 years as a tour guide, event manager and digital nomad. In Zero to Travel, Jason shares some his globetrotting experiences and gives advice for travel newbies, for people who are stuck in a 9 to 5 jobs, for students who are on a budget, for entrepreneurs who are looking to start their business from the road and literally anyone who wants to get to know our planet a little better… He also takes listener questions, so do go ahead if you have something on your chest!
