When you move into your dream home, the last thing on your mind are any problems you’re likely to face down the road. Instead, you’re enjoying the moment of unpacking, decorating, and planning your housewarming party.

The reality is, there’s a good chance you will face troublesome problems if you haven’t already. Some issues are worse than others and can cost you a fortune to fix. Not every problem may happen to you, but there’s a good chance one of them could.

Here is a list of five of the most frustrating issues houses will face.

Mold and Mildew

Mold is a common household problem. It is unpleasant and can cause serious health issues if not addressed. The problem, though, is by the time you notice mold, it most likely has grown much more than what you can see.

Mold forms when there is an excessive amount of water in the area and moisture in the air. A small, unnoticed leak in a pipe is bound to create mold. A house that floods and isn’t properly dried out will develop mold. Small amounts of mold can easily be dealt with by the homeowner. However, if it is beyond your control, you’ll need to bring in a mold remediation company.

Bugs and Rodents

Bugs and rodents might be one of the most unpleasant and repulsive issues a house is likely to face. Unfortunately, there’s a good chance it will happen. From ants to bed bugs to mice, tiny little critters can fit into the smallest of cracks in the foundation, and find their way into the comfort of your home. If that happens, set up traps or call in an extermination company.

Broken or Leaky Pipes

Pipe issues are bound to happen at some point. The materials used to build the water system in a house cannot last forever. Also, if you do not keep up with regular maintenance, they will deteriorate even quicker. A broken or leaky pipe might start off as a small issue, but it can quickly grow into a serious problem with devastating consequences.

Roof Damage

Depending on where you live, roof damage might be a common occurrence. For other people, it might just be you need to replace your shingles when their lifespan is over. Either way, fixing and updating the roof of your house will eventually happen. That part of the house is outside and protects your home from the environment. When severe weather comes through, the roof tends to take the brunt of it.

Structural Damage

Structural damage is one of the most expensive and most dangerous issues a house will face. It is the backbone of the home. The structure is what keeps the place intact and from falling over. If that is compromised, your home will become dangerous for anyone to live in.

Unfortunately, when the time comes that the structure needs updating, it is not an easy and affordable task. However, if it is not done, and not done correctly, the other option is to move or abandon the house altogether.
