When you live in a home, you keep it clean and make sure your home looks nice. If you own the home, you pay for anything that has to be repaired and you keep up the maintenance. However, there is one home that many people neglect even if they don’t mean to. Just as important as taking care of your home is taking care of your body.

You have to take care of yourself because regardless of how many different places you live throughout your life, you will only have one body in this lifetime. Age is something that nobody can avoid. What people can do is make sure they are following the steps discussed below so they are taking care of their bodies every day.

Everybody needs to rest and many people aren’t getting the sleep they need every night. It is recommended that everyone gets between eight to ten hours of sleep every night. If you aren’t getting that much sleep then you won’t be as strong as you normally are to resist anything that might be trying to make you sick. When I felt sick, I took a Vitamin C, some orange juice, and a nap and felt better when I woke up. You could also be setting yourself up for problems later in life. You could put on weight, become depressed, or cause yourself to have a heart attack or stroke.

Becoming dehydrated is never a good thing. When you work out, you should be taking a bottle of water with you. If you allow yourself to become dehydrated, you won’t have as much energy as you would if you kept yourself hydrated. It also won’t hurt to drink water even on days that you are not working out.

While we all want to be healthy, some of us do not eat the healthy foods that we should. Most of us were taught about the food pyramid in school that had different food groups but many people don’t have the recommended serving they should of one group or more. While you want to eat foods that are good for you, you also do not want to stuff yourself. When people eat a lot of food on Thanksgiving, people eat more then they should and then end up feeling sleepy afterward.

Having the lifestyle of a couch potato is never healthy. Fresh exercise can prevent heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. When you exercise, different chemicals are released in your body which will make you feel rested. There were times I felt sick, worked out in the weight room during a Physical Education class, and felt better by the end of the class. Things come up in life which we can’t avoid and everyone has commitments which may make it hard to find time to work out. However, if you don’t have time to go to the gym to lift weights, you could always run around the block or speed walk if you prefer to get the blood pumping and increase your heart rate.

Those are a few things you can do to take care of yourself. Just like you maintain your home, your body needs to be maintained as well. If you take care of your body, you will be happier in life.
