Wander through highly considered spaces inside the Upper East Side Renovation by architecture and interior design studio Ronen Lev, where European design preserves an apartment’s pre-war charm.

New York based interior studio Ronen Lev were asked to redesign and renovate a home located in a quiet crop of pre-war apartments near Park Avenue. Rethinking how the apartment could work harder spatially for its owners, Ronen Lev’s intervention marked a mission to create a cosy, cultivated refuge within. As an exemplar of New York City living, we take a closer look at the home’s elegant, opulent details and how Ronen Lev has optimised every square metre.

Ronen Lev started by segmenting the apartment into zones; including a breakfast room, library, dining room, living room, master bedroom, ensuite, bathroom and kids’ bedroom. Peering through the custom walnut veneer and marble alley kitchen, we’re particularly drawn to the breakfast room which reveals a classic British atmosphere through its showcase of UK craftsmanship. The Bert Frank Revolve Rise & Fall Pendant adds a vibrant blue splash, while the Ercol Original Plank Table and Purpose Windsor Chairs sit opposite the Knoll upholstered custom benchseat.

In the dining room Ronen Lev opted for warm neutrals and negative space, lending an overall timelessness to the space. Centring the area is a custom made table, Poliform Chairs and locally sourced Haynes Mirror from Egg Collective. Leading Australian lighting designer Articolo also makes an appearance in this decadent space, with the Fizi Ball Sconce, together with the Lindsay Adelman Agnes ceiling fixture.

Inside the light-doused living room, a palette combining all-white walls, black and gold accents with cool grey tones is paired with honey-coloured herringbone floors. A mix of vintage and modern design objects define the space, including Gio Ponti side chairs, a Mondrian coffee table from Poliform, Hase BL Floor Lamp and a Marc Phillips rug.

Painted in Farrow & Ball’s dark green, the study enclave is located off the living room. It’s the ideal space to put on a vinyl record and unwind in the Vintage Marco Zanuso Lady Chairs, rest your beverage on a Molenti&Co side table under the ambient light of the Gino Sarfatti Model 548 table lamp. Ronen Lev sourced the rug from ALT for Living and the Bastion Sconces from Allied Maker

The refined atmosphere reaches new levels in the master bedroom. In this provate space, Phillip Jeffries Silver Peony wallpaper lends a subtle texture which is punctuated by the Serge Mouille Antony Sconce. A Gio Poliform side table neighbours a custom upholstered bed head with Larsen fabric.

We couldn’t think of an apartment more fitting to its Park Avenue neighbourhood than this Upper East Side Renovation. Ronen Lev have interlaced the new and old, neutral and ornate for an entirely polished and petite New York residence.
