diy Christmas card holder

With Christmas coming, the festive cards will be piling up too.  And piles of stuff eventually become piles of clutter which none of us need more of, right?

We all know mantles and counter tops become full very quickly so this year I decided to re-purpose an old picture frame I had lying around and turn it in to diy Christmas card holder.  This means I can keep my table tops for other decorations without crowding them up with cards as well. And its always nice to have some cards on display as it adds to the festive feel of your home.

This diy Christmas card holder is quick and easy to make mostly from stuff you probably already have at home. I’ve gone for a linen backing on my frame as I love the look and feel of linen.  You can use any nice plain cloth you have – felt would work well or even a single coloured tea towel as long as it’s big enough.

Materials:
any picture frame you have
a piece of cloth bigger than the frame size (I used a piece of linen)
rubber bands
removable glue dots (optional)

1. Cut a piece of cloth so that it’s slightly larger than the frame on all sides – approximately 1-1.5 inches should be fine. Iron it as flat as you can.
2. Lay the cloth over the backing of the frame and slide your rubber bands over.
3. Now it’s time to slot in your cards.  Arrange them behind the rubber bands as you like.
4. Next attach the frame and glass as you would frame any picture.  The glass and frame, along with the rubber bands,  should keep your cards in place.
5. I chose to go without the glass because I didn’t like the reflection . If you do this you will need to use tiny glue dots to keep your cards in place as they are likely to slip through the rubber bands.

In addition to displaying Christmas cards, you can also display a photo or two to bring back memories of your year.

As mentioned above, you can make this diy Christmas card holder with or without the glass of your frame. I went for glass free as I found that with the glass it was too reflective and the cards weren’t as visible.
