This New It Bag Is the Hardest Thing to Track Down In Fashion Right Now

The 2000s trends that have made a return to our wardrobes haven’t been quite what we expected. We feared the ultra-low-rise jeans and shuddered at the thought of donning velour tracksuits again. But there’s nothing to be scared of the noughties trends that have actually managed to elegantly weave their way into 2019 wardrobes. Shoulder bags made a return without a fuss. Going-out tops and jeans that you’d have seen on The O.C. are being worn during the day again. Ganni made cowboy boots the boots of the moment. And now another Carrie Bradshaw classic has made its way to the top of our shopping lists…

Thanks to Daniel Lee, the new creative director of Bottega Veneta, we’re now witnessing the return of the clutch bag. As an alum of Phoebe Philo’s Céline, Lee’s appointment at Bottega Veneta was one of the most highly anticipated fashion moments of the year. Sarah Mower, chief critic at Vogue.com, predicted a “star-is-born scenario” back in December 2018 in response to the Pre-Fall 19 lookbook release. Images from the collection subsequently went viral on Instagram, and a few months later, Bottega’s Pouch bag emerged as the star buy.

The Pouch is an oversized clutch with carefully gathered leather forming into the seamless closure at the top. It’s roomier than a traditional clutch, and its simplicity makes it a classic investment piece. Lee also designed a version of the bag in Bottega Veneta’s signature intrecciato weave. The first collection sold out almost immediately, while the new-season preorder option will likely be building a long waiting list.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is among the new It bag’s famous fans. She has posted photos of at least two styles of the pouch on Instagram, featuring the brown version in countless outfits, modelling the bag’s versatility. Keep scrolling to see who else has been carrying the Pouch bag, and then shop it before it sells out again.
