To celebrate World Bee Day, McDonald’s has opened its smallest restaurant in the world. Dubbed the “McHive,” the minuscule building is located in Sweden, and it was handcrafted by a local woodworker. Featuring drive-through windows, outdoor dining areas, and tiny golden arches on the roof, the eatery—which is a fully functional beehive inside—heralds a new initiative by the fast-food chain to preserve pollinators.
McDonald’s commissioned the McHive to spread the word about its restaurants in Sweden, which are working to save the bees by installing rooftop hives. So far, five restaurants have installed beehives, and the company hopes to encourage more to follow suit.
