When we spoke to the lovely nune founder Sheena Murphy late last year, she mentioned her return to London, coinciding with the NYC-based studio opening a new London HQ. A native Brit, Sheena said she knew they would always go back – but how New York City will always remain another home in her family’s heart.

All settled in, Sheena has set up a cosy and comfortable new place for her family (and their pooch) to live in London. It may be a temporary rental residence in Queens Park, North West London, but Sheena has shown us what it really means to give a superficial facelift to a beautiful old Victorian. The extent of Sheena’s design work includes a new coat of paint throughout, replacing light fixtures and adding some new London pieces for the main living spaces – while filling it with all of her favourite finds.

Throughout the three-storey late Victorian home, Sheena worked to honour the architecture and original features, but really explored how it could mesh with the introduced contemporary design pieces. The shared spaces are an amalgamation of Sheena’s favourite US designer-makers such as the Sawkille side chair and Ben & Aja Blanc tassled Half Moon Mirror who sit among her preferred local London vendors such as the vintage Beton Brut side chair in the living space. The living room also hosts the sumptuous leather CH163 sofa by Hans J. Wegner, the circular Rodan coffee table by Pinch and the organically sculptural Kreten Side Table by Isaac Friedman-Heiman. Shining a light on these special objects is a floor lamp by Michael Anastassiades, Bounce Table Lamp by Karl Zahn and the Jaime Formakami Lamps for &Tradition overhead.

One look at the bedrooms and they are the exact same delectable mix of vintage and contemporary pieces. An absolute standout piece in Sheena’s master bedroom collection is the vintage Beton Brut armchair that feels just as contemporary today. It’s in esteemed company too, with a vintage Beton Brut table lamp and two vintage rugs from Heja Home and Larusi. New layers in this space include the Pinch Clyde side table and Parachute linen.

It’s not always a top-to-toe home transformation that piques our interest at est, it can be as simple as this redressing of a family home. Tying together Sheena’s appreciation for traditional London architecture and contemporary design objects, we can’t wait to see her permanent family abode take shape.
