Let’s be honest; London has no shortage of beautiful spaces to stay. But until now, one of our favourite local areas (that would be Notting Hill, of course!) has been lacking in the accommodation department. Enter The Laslett: a boutique hotel by Living Rooms that unites a series of five Grade II listed Victorian Townhouses to host 51 lovingly-appointed guest rooms and suites. And because Notting Hill still maintains some rough and rustic charm amongst its elegant, townhouse-lined streets, there’s also a hefty dose of local inspiration and eclectic design on show.

Named for local figure Rhaune Laslett, founder of the infamous Notting Hill Carnival, The Laslett is as much a celebration of its community history as it is contemporary design. British architects Waldo Works teamed up with Pinch and Race Furniture to shape the eclectic interiors, while local heroes such as Biba founder-cum-artist Barbara Hulanicki and Jerome Dodd of Golborne Road’s Les Couilles du Chien antique shop contributed artworks, artefacts and antique design touches to create interiors that ooze personality and a sense of place.

Entering on the ground floor you’ll find communal spaces to enjoy in The Library; a collection of British books to peruse over a coffee or cocktail, art-lined walls, a carefully curated shop and The Henderson Bar, an all-day dining room that serves up everything from avocado toast to tea and scones in the afternoon. The suites themselves are tucked away upstairs, adding to the home-like coziness and making for a quieter space to sleep even when the bar is full. There’s a few different suites to choose from, but all are well-appointed (the Tatcha amenities were a particularly welcome addition to freshen up after a long-haul flight!) and generously proportioned compared to much of what’s on offer in London.

When it comes to getting out and about, of course Notting Hill has plenty to offer, and being in the midst of it you’ll be an easy walk to whatever your day entails. Beloved local eateries like Farm Girl and Clarke’s are within a ten minute walk of the hotel, while Ledbury Road and Westbourne Grove have plenty to snack and sip on between popping into retail favourites like Matches, Smythson and Anya Hindmarch as well as a flurry of independent boutiques. And while it might be a fully-fledged tourist attraction these days, Portobello Market still throws up some antique treasures if you’re after a unique gift to take home.
