Tucked away on a residential street in Collingwood is the passion project of founder and director of Hub Furniture, Jacqueline Foti-Lowe. Jacqueline has opened the doors of The Hub General Store; a treasure trove abound with objects of interest and integrity, collected across years and continents.

Behind a historic red brick facade sits Jacqueline’s admired collection. The founder had long been searching for a building unique by its heritage character to house each eclectic and globally-sourced piece. She found her match in a small bluestone building on Cambridge street, yearning for restoration. By embracing the raw materials and rustic edges, Jacqueline has designed The Hub General Store to feel homey and lived in —  where you can easily imagine plucking one of the products from atop of the Aga oven and placing it in your own kitchen.

Just as a traditional general store, The Hub General Store is full of individual items for your every day, alongside vintage furniture and handmade goods. It brings together three distinct spaces: a front room with a preserved original fireplace, a rear space with a pitched roof and a second storey space complete with a grand staircase. Welcoming you inside is an area dedicated to integrating events and exhibitions into the retail store, debuted by British designer Faye Toogood. The in-store installation encapsulates the refined work of her London studio.

While the store is entirely different in look and feel from the Hub Furniture store, it holds the Hub ethos of quality, originality and authenticity close. It is this vision that shines through in Jacqueline’s highly personal approach and certainly sets The Hub General Store apart from the rest. There’s no denying the difficulty of leaving without a bag full, in a store where you don’t want to leave and you’re already thinking about your next visit; a retail feat indeed.

‘After fifteen years of traipsing through flea markets all over the world collecting knick-
knacks, I’ve decided to create a place for the everyday object.’
