The Est Edit: Floor Lamp Lighting

Welcome to the light show. We thought it was high time we shed some light (excuse the pun) on the sophisticated, sculptural and statement floor lamp lighting that is experiencing a moment in the interior spotlight. As designers’ experiment with a combination of materials and visual effects, we bring you some of our favourite optical beauties, all crafted to create an elegantly defined silhouette that’s fit for the modern home.

We’ve taken our inspiration from The Finger Wharf Apartment by Architect Prineas and rounded up some classic and contemporary front-runners. Bringing a new perspective to the lighting game, our selection of luminaires range from the monochromatic and linear to the ethereal and cloud-like.

Living Edge Akari 3A Floor Lamp

Akari A3

Akari is a Japanese term that means both ‘light’ as illumination but also implying the idea of weightlessness. The Akari Light Sculptures (1951) by Isamu Noguchi are paper lanterns that harmoniously blend Japanese handcraft and modernist forms. Available from Living Edge.

Jaime Hayon x Parachilna

Distinctly Hayon in its playfulness and personality, the Lightoread P lamps for Parachilna feature metallic shades that bounce light off of shallow domes. We’re particularly fond of the red marble version.
