You guys! I am so behind on writing this! I have been out of town for 2 weeks straight and feel like I have traveled the world! I am SO tired I could cry! But I can’t believe I am behind on sharing this because it was SO amazing!
In April I had the time of my life working with La-Z-Boy on the design dash. I was one of 8 bloggers that got to participate in this crazy fun event, and I am hoping I get to try it again someday.
I have to admit I had NO idea what was in store. I should have google searched their past events, and I feel like my fears would have been qualmed a little bit! I knew only two things to start:
I picked out this modern sofa and had them cover it in a beautiful camel colored leather
My walls were white… (but still no idea what those walls looked like!)
I arrived in North Carolina a day early and got to really enjoy a beautiful room and a little down time, for which I am thankful!
The next day, we started with the “dash”- which was one hour in the La-Z-Boy showroom, trying to find pieces for a hypothetical space, to match the sofa… we had a limit of 60 stickers we could put on items. We could only pick 2 rugs, and everyone was there at the same time, so a lot of great pieces were taken by the time you saw them!
We each had a cart and two great helpers to help look for, tag, and move things to our table (if the items were small enough)
My biggest regret was not finding a great rug (more on this later), AND not getting more seating options. It was hard not to get overwhelmed by options, and I didn’t have the clearest plan when I ran into the space… so I used up a LOT of stickers on accessories, and wasn’t even sure what I had tagged.
The next day, we got to go to the professional photo studio where they literally have huge shells of rooms built 2-3 walls, that you can create a room in and photograph. They had about 8 options for fly walls (different textures that you could add to the space, and 2 fireplaces) we drew names to see what order people would pick… I was 6 out of 7… wot. wot….
Luckily for me, no one wanted this rather art nouveau fireplace so even though I was picking so late in the game, I got it!… Then they put it in my space and here was the starting point.
So remember how I had chosen my rugs poorly???
I do! It is burned into my brain!
When we were set free to actually start designing the space, for which we only had about 3-ish hours, I realized my rug- the foundation of the space was WAY to small. For twenty minutes I walked around waffling about what to do. I was trying to make things work, and not knowing what to do to fix it – since there were no other options for rugs…
So I was moving the sofa all around, and just trying not to cry.
We got to this point, check it out:
I might have been able to make it work, but I was SO disappointed!!!
I was sick to my stomach, knowing that I really had no way to get around this. A rug is SO important to grounding the room, and I felt like mine was just floating in nowhere land. The faux cowhide helped a bit, but still, it was just not enough.
This is where my sweet lovely friend Traci of Beneath my Heart literally saved the day, she had an extra rug, that happened to be Navy, and neutral, and was the PERFECT size. TA DA!
At that point we were rocking and rolling and the room came together SO fast!!
The photographer came and took a test shot of the room, so that I could plan the view, of what everyone would see. It really helped us move a few things and focus the space. From this point it really only took me about an hour to finish tweaking the space. I was so relieved!
I know not everyone loves gold but I do, I think it is making a huge come back… Here is the final space!! EEK!! I love it so much!
We had the BEST Time, we made new friends AND got to hang out with so many women that I LOVE! I love this blogging community it is such a wonderful place to be!
Thank you to La-Z-Boy for letting me participate in this event! It was so fun! We have the chance to win a $10,000 prize, so we really need your help!
