I can say that one of the things I was most happy about last year was going house hunting. That’s because 2017 was the year when I decided with my boyfriend that’s the perfect time to buy a home. We looked at different proprieties, but we really had in mind one in particular. We loved it so much, especially I did, that I said no matter the construction, this projects is the right one for me.

Lucky that before I started viewing apartments in that building I wanted, my mom said you should start asking about some certain things or checking different construction issues. My boyfriend and I knew nothing about buying a home and besides being pretty and all we didn’t knew what to look for. Sure, we looked at the layout of the space, or the balcony (that was a major deal for me), we asked the question we heard about the construction and others and in the end, after just one week, we decided to buy the place. The apartment was new and a lot of apartments in that building were sold rather quickly. It all seemed kind of perfect, but in the end it wasn’t as I dreamed it would be we had some issues with the apartment.

Talking about the legal part, for me it seemed like I was lied about a lot of things. Sure, I read the paperwork, sure it was ok, but certain questions and answers really didn’t add up. See, when you buy an apartment in a new building you can never say when you’re actually moving into that home. For me the promised date was around May last year , and now we have to wait until March, hopefully that will be the month we actually move in. It isn’t ok because if you’re paying rent and you have certain plans for the home all kinda falls apart, and being lied about postponing the legal paperwork, or the delays of the construction, or the month you can actually live in are issues that aren’t ok, and that are a couple of things you need to know from the beginning, especially if you don’t want to lose confidence in the real estate holder.

Secondly, I saw poor work done in some rooms and luckily I could save some of them. You know when you pick a new place and you can also pick certain tiles? Well, in my case they mixed them up and I received others , just after a huge scandal I had them removed and replaced with others (still not the original ones I asked for) and so on.

Also, the type of questions that start with: ”Can I do this?”’ and you their answer  is ”Of, course!”, but after a while you end up with ”No, you can’t.” are simply time consuming.

The bathroom retouches were a nightmare, this is a room you should always, always check! I’m still waiting for some parts to be done and I’m impatient already.

Last, but not least, the AC work (that was included) was a huge problem for me, the pipe construction was just wrong, it was a bad joke and it still is because it isn’t working properly. And those things were done after taking the place and you can see why you should pay attention to a lot of stuff before closing the deal or try to figure it out afterwards. That being said, you should always be careful for asbestos signs . I started reading Your Legal Friend and found for more info on asbestos claims. There I read a lot of legal advice and found out that these things can happen to anybody and you can have a legal solution or representation for this kind of issues. Finding a new home or renovating and old one is hard, and in two or three years I may change mine to a bigger one, but next time I’ll be more careful.
