Nestled just off a busy road, this home residence in Richmond is indicative of a busy inner-city lifestyle – minutes from dozens of shopping and dining hotspots, a short walk to Melbourne’s CBD and lacking in space to spare.

A pared-back approach from Georgia Ezra of GABBE does wonders in both creating space and warmth to the home. Balancing a tactile approach to materials with an eclectic collection of art and furnishings, Ezra creates a unique character for the home without compromising space.

Stripping back the interiors to emphasise the natural materials of the home, Ezra creates a tactile approach using tiles, concrete and timber throughout the residence. The living room features repainted exposed-brick walls and floor-to-ceiling custom bookshelves while the kitchen combines Moroccan mosaic tiles from Tiles of Ezra (Georgia’s side project), iron window frames and stainless steel, creating a modern yet earthy aesthetic.

The eclectic collection of furnishings and art builds further personality to the tactile style of the interiors. A warm colour palette of mustards, crimsons and charcoal plays out nicely against the white and grey backdrop of the living space while the green tiles are subtly reinforced in the natural hues of the kitchen and dining spaces. Vintage finds like the church pew and table and dining chairs in the kitchen add further character without feeling kitschy or overdone.

In building a strong, stylish background and infusing it with colour and character, it’s easy to shed the city bustle and feel right at home in this cosy home.

Tiles of Ezra was conceptualised after Georgia was unable to find a high-quality tile range for her interior architecture projects. In partnership with her sister, NYC-based designer Macaela Ezra, they developed Tiles of Ezra to bring authentic, globally-made tiles to the home.
