A brand new spin on a 150 year old personality sums up this Victorian Terrace project by Fiona Lynch, recently nominated for the 2018 Dulux Colour Awards. Contemporary materials bring the skeleton of this home to the modern era, with natural stone, terrazzo and brass leading the way in character and materiality

The narrowness of the interior – common to Victorian terrace homes – was completely re-planned by Fiona Lynch to open up more space, to the point where you’d almost be forgiven for asking why any more space is needed when height and light seems so abundant. Intentional avoidance of colour and texture embraces this sense of depth and space, with the notable exception of the kitchen, where bold colour and materials are utilised to make a true statement.

A navy blue kitchen with decorative brass and a high gloss finishing couldn’t be more appropriate with the owners of the home being avid entertainers and lovers of cooking. Leading straight out into the courtyard, the kitchen is the focal point of the entire home and gets the attention it deserves thanks to the stunning combination of materials. Artful and inventive vision is what’s helped Fiona and a host of other brilliant names such as Architects Eat and SJB interiors receive nominations in the 2018 Dulux Colour Awards, proving the amount of Victorian talent is nowhere near lacking.

In tactful contrast, the bathroom puts simplicity on show with natural stone and wood detailing creating a lasting and chic impression. The inhabitants of the space are welcomed everyday by a wide and generous balcony where they can enjoy fresh air and the morning light. Fiona Lynch has elegantly managed to preserve the heritage, bringing inhabitants back to the roots of the space. Colour and materials play under its Victorian charm creating a truly unique arena where past and present mesh and mingle.
