Ever tried macrame? Whether you're a first-timer or want to give it a chance for the first time in awhile, one of these new kits has everything to get you knotting in no time.
Anyone who’s been paying any attention to my Picks of the Week series knows that I’m all about any craft made with string. Thanks to the folks at Solid Oak, the string my hands are occupied with today is actually rope! I’ve done a bit of macrame here, here and there, but it’s been a minute, and I’ve never done a full wall hanging using the technique. Luckily, I was able to make an entire wall hanging from start to finish in one day using the Flowers Wall Hanging Kit from Solid Oak. The kit came with all supplies needed, including an actual twig for hanging, brass tubes to accentuate the piece’s flower motifs, and most importantly, easy-to-follow instructions that walk you easily through how to make the entire wall hanging. No need to google macrame knots with your best-guess search terms, it’s all there!

Honestly, I worked on this over the course of one Saturday afternoon and evening back in early August. It was a super hot day, and I’d just shot photos of Intarsia Mountain in 95+ degree heat. I was done doing anything for the day: photos, designing, interacting with humans – d-o-n-e! So I grabbed a pair of scissors, a ruler and this macrame kit, went to town, and didn’t stop knotting til I made the whole dang kit (which only took the one day btw). It was nice working from a pattern, and the included instructions were truly easy to follow. If you’re curious to try macrame for the first time (or the first time in awhile), these kits are a good choice. They retail in the $20-25 range as of this writing, and there’s no need to know how to buy rope by the yard or anything like that.

Thanks to this kit, I was reminded of how fun macrame can be. It was refreshing to get off of my needles and hooks and mixing things up while still exploring the possibilities of what can be made with string! Plus, these kit designs are really stylish and on trend, making them great for adding some boho vibes to your space. (And if you’re looking to make a gift for a friend who’s not as hot on knitwear as she is on home decor, the finished wall hanging would make a great gift for her too.)
