Shepherd’s Lamb Rambouillet Yarn Review & Giveaway

Lately, I’ve been really really digging good old, country style wool yarns. (Yes, despite the fact that it’s about to be May, ha!) It’s the kind of yarn that just makes you feel grounded and solid while you work with it. It’s a little more down to earth, very pleasant and homey in your hands. In honor of Earth Day this week, I give you one such yarn – a 100% certified organic wool number from Shepherd’s Lamb: Rambouillet Yarn. This 2-ply sport weight yarn is a joy to knit & crochet with for wool lovers, especially those who care for the environment!

This yarn is hand-dyed with something called low-impact prepared powder dyes. Shepherd’s Lamb yarns come from New Mexico, a place where water is a precious resource. The dyeing process used to make Rambouillet yarn is suited to dry climates because it requires very little water and is done in small batches due to the time-consuming nature of this natural dye process. Also, most of the natural dye materials used to make this line of gorgeous yarns are gathered by hand from northern New Mexico, which is SO COOL.

Skein details: 180 yards/165 meters per skein // 2.0 ounces/57g per skein // 100% Certified Organic Wool // Sport Weight
Knitting needles: US 6, 4 mm / 16 stitches & 22 rows over 4 inches (10 cm)
Crochet hook: US G-6, 4 mm / 18 sc & 24 rows over 4 inches (10 cm)
Cons: If you like your superwash yarn (which is basically coated in plastic, btw), you might not love having to launder your handmade items super carefully.
Pros: Can we talk about how gorgeous this Razzleberry color is? Ugh, I just love it! One of the most perfect reds, especially in real life, in my humble opinion.
