Shadow Roll House is located behind the facade of a heritage-protected workers’ cottage in Port Melbourne, Victoria. Designed by Megowan Architectural in dark gray corrugated steel, the design for this house features a rolled roofline which allows for the new building’s shape while retaining the distinctive feel of the surrounding environment. Inside, the ceiling curved into a feature that allows the vacuum double height and partnership be visual differences between the open space on the first floor and the ground floor.

The first floor benefits from enclosures such as bulkheads and screens that help focus and preserve views of the north and Melbourne skyline, while preventing views of the private space from neighboring neighbors.

Blackbutt woodworking flooring and workshops contrast with black steel screens, shelves and window frames to make the room feel warm throughout the interior. Strong accents in the living room and around the interior comes from the standard-sized material that adds logic and settings at the same time while minimizing waste.

There are two internal light centers that strategically penetrate the old design with the new, allowing natural light and ventilation to penetrate deeper into narrow urban sites. Thanks to the efficient space planning makes use of flexible space and an interior that can be categorized but connected visually create the impression of a larger than actual size.
