you may think of the settee as a thing of the past, but as you saw in yesterday’s post, it’s just not so. the settee, which has been around a while — dating back to the 17th century in Europe — is really such an ideal seating solution for small spaces. the settee looks lovely in an entryway, a reading nook, and across a larger sofa for additional seating, but my favorite use for a settee is at a dining room table — such a comfy spot for guests to sit around the dinner table if your settee is just the right height. it’s also a really interesting way to create an eclectic and unexpected mix with your modern pieces. a little curve, a little tufted plush love goes a long way on style. you can find them in all shapes and sizes these days from vintage to brand new — i love west elm’s elton settee, and the velvet Orianna and astrid settees from anthropologie are classic beauties and come in a bounty of beautiful colors. go on — have a settee, won’t you?
