The city of Matera is located in southern Italy, a place known for its caves, also known as “sassi”. People inhabited them from the Palaeolithic age, since they first made them carving the soft stone.

The local architectural company Manca Studio undertook the challenge of transforming one of these caves into a modern, dreamy place that would house La Dimora di Metello. The result is impressive, as the historical element blends brilliantly with contemporary looks, with the design uniquely redefining the earthly feature that inevitably defines the space.

Many curved lines will be found in the four suites of the hotel, but also on the terrace, the spa and its open space. You do not feel “claustrophobic” at all, since there is a lot of light and a feeling of warmth, a “feat” if we think we are talking about caves!

They were declared World Heritage Sites in 1993 by UNESCO and had been extensively studied, but over the years public interest in them had diminished considerably. In recent years, an attempt has been made to redefine them and in the pictures below you will see a unique example of this, which is absolutely successful.
