Noble, homely, royal – such epithets royal or pelargonium deserve from flower growers is not accidental. Among the many species of geranium, it stands out for its unusual curly flowers, reminiscent of pansies. It is for this curly miracle, despite the capricious nature of the plant, that it is both appreciated and loved and popular.
Brought to Europe at the end of the 18th century, domestic pelargonium has undergone active selection, revealing to the world a huge number of hybrids. Among them there are those that grew in almost every home in many countries, and new varieties of pelargonium that have gained popularity in our days.
zonal or in the popular way “kalach” is the most common type of plant, high erect bushes of which adorn our balconies today. The flower got the prefix “zonal” for its peculiarly colored leaves, on which dark and light circles whimsically alternate. In decorative terms, such varieties as “Jacqueline”, “Golden Crest” and “Stella” are interesting.
Pelargonium ivy attracts flower growers with its flexible, creeping stems, with the help of which amazing cascading compositions are created. Her leaves are not even pubescent, like many , but fleshy and dense, like ivy. Designers use ampelous pelargonium to decorate terraces and gazebos.
Angel Pelargonium is a miniature copy of the royal pelargonium, with small flowers similar in shape to those of the royal species. It is interesting for its ability to metamorphosis: in the shade, the “angel” gives out an ampelous cascade, and in the sun it turns into a zonal upright bush.
The proud beauty does not like the high air temperature too much, for her comfortable indicators are + 20-25 degrees in summer and 15-17 degrees in winter. She will feel uncomfortable on the south window, but she will like the north or east side.
The irrigation scheme for royal pelargonium is common: in summer it is regular, but moderately, in winter it is rare and in small portions. But here there are also some nuances: use soft, rain or settled water for irrigation, do not water into a pot, pour water into a pan. Plants do not respond well to soil compaction and can get sick.
Justifying its harmful nature, large-flowered pelargonium does not like frequent transplants. If you plan to keep Royal Pelargonium outdoors in the summer, be prepared for the fact that moving to winter can cause the death of the plant.
Attention! Providing royal care for geraniums at home, in transplanting, limit yourself to adding a substrate to the pot, but do not rush to transplant the flower. At the wrong time, the disturbed pelargonium will take offense and stop blooming.
Pelargonium aromatic prefers fertilizers with nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. The first month after planting fertilization is not necessary, the plant takes nutrients from the substrate. It is good if you use a granular mixture for feeding geraniums. It will provide the plant with essential trace elements for a long time.
