February Blues Pattern Suite by Two of Wands

Sorry to say, but February is probably my least favorite month of the year (so it’s a good thing it’s short!). The excitement of a new year and fresh start that January brings has passed, and now all we are left with is dreary cold weather and several weeks before spring hits. Seasonable depression is a real thing, and it takes extra effort to liven up the days. That’s why this month I’ve create a pattern suite to lift your spirits! The theme is:

Nothing is better for the mind than a pretty and super simple lace repeat that brings a meditative rhythm to your stitches. The Affirmations Scarf was designed as a sort of peace shawl or prayer shawl to allow the maker to infuse an affirmation or mantra into their work. The stitch is easy to memorize but creates such a beautiful fabric.

The Bramble Jumper is one of my top 5 most worn handmade items. I am so in love with the subtle bobble fabric that the bramble stitch (aka trinity stitch, raspberry stitch, etc) creates. And worked up in Lion Brand Feel Like Butta yarn, this is such an enjoyable knit.

The Cobble Hill Morning Cape has so many special details that make it super unique (and incredibly cozy to wear!). Part of my Cityscape Fall/Winter Collection from 2018, this piece was inspired by wanting to have a wearable blanket to just throw on when you have to run out on a chilly morning to walk the dog or grab something from the corner deli. I love the slightly mitered pockets and tasseled collar!

Adding a little sparkle to your knits it always a good way to liven up your stitches, and my favorite yarn for the job is Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball. The meandering colors and subtle sparkle make this fabric look like outer space! The Icicle Wrap is one of my most simple patterns but the result is one of the most versatile projects in my library. The oldest pattern in the suite, but still one of my faves and most worn, is the Penny Lane Collar. This loopy beauty is SO fun to watch come to life. The resulting fabric is extra thick and holds its structure so well. I love topping any and all coats and jackets with this beaut!

The Huntress Vest was one of my first breakout success patterns, and it’s still one of my top sellers! This clever shape was inspired by a certain young adult book/film character that launched this ever-popular project to stardom. Using simple shapes constructed in unique ways, this project is beginner friendly and challenging in all the right ways!

The Kodiak Hooded Pocket Scarf is probably the quickest project in the suite, which means you can make lots of them for friends and family 🙂 Some simple folds give character to this hooded scarf that keeps multiple parts of you warm at the same time!

Simple embroidery techniques transform the Mudcloth Blanket into a work of art. Using Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick, this blanket works up extra fast and even doubles as a rug. It’s one of the most used blankets in my house 🙂

Sparkle and versatility: two two defining words of the Night Lights Sweater. It can be worn in SIX different ways (click here to see!) and it’s just mesmerizing to watch the Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball yarn change into so many beautiful colors.

Last on the list but definitely not last is the Rebozo Wrap. This would probably be up there in my top worn finished pieces if I hadn’t given it to a friend who was going through some tough times. I actually designed it with that purpose in mind. The stitches are incredible meditative and it makes for a perfect peace or prayer shawl because of that. There are endless color combinations for this project and each one can be so meaningful!

STAY TUNED FOR NEXT MONTH’S SUITE! CAN YOU GUESS WHAT THE THEME WILL BE?
