Sail away with this sweet Valentine treat! A few blue licorice twists make a wavy ocean for the boat to sail on. Folding the paper boats is an activity that young kids can really get into, if you want to make a lot for classmates. Ship Ahoy and Happy Valentine’s!

Materials needed: blue licorice twists, card stock, kitchen scissors, Boat Valentine template, stapler, 5 ¼” x 8 1/8” cellophane bags, decorative paper.

Step 1: Print out the Boat Valentine template onto card stock and cut out the foldover tags. Cut on the straight lines and fold along the dotted line. A paper cutter is helpful if you have one, otherwise scissors will do the job.
Step 2: Take a 4” x 5” rectangle of paper and fold in half lengthwise.
Step 3: With the crease at the top, fold the top two outside corners in toward the middle.
Step 4: Fold the front bottom edge up, flip over, and repeat, folding the bottom edge up.
Step 5: Put your hands in the opening, pop the sides out, tuck the edges under each other, and flatten the new shape.
Step 6: With the opening on bottom, fold up the front. Flip over, and fold up the back.
Step 7: Open the bottom fold, and push the sides out.
Step 8: Flatten the new shape and gently grab the top layers at the top of the shape.
Step 9: Gently pull down the sides to pop open.
Step 10: Cut 4 or 5 licorice twists to 5 inches and insert them into the bottom of the bag.
Step 11: Insert a paper boat above the twists.
Step 12: Fold the tag over the top of the bag and staple in place.
