We take a tour behind the unassuming facade of a heritage-listed cottage, nestled in the heart of North Adelaide.
From a humble worker’s cottage into a work of art,
The original dimensions of the home, with its long, narrow layout and never-ending lean-to, required a bespoke design.
To seamlessly marry the existing with the new, Williams Burton Leopardi sought inspiration from the grace of a traditional Victorian and carried it through the redesign. And so, light and refined sophistication evolved with elegant marble tabletops, timber for warmth and high-end finishes.
In the kitchen, a monolithic honed limestone block with a custom recessed sink takes centre stage. Creating an optical illusion using a timber base, the bench appears to ‘float’ above the flooring beneath. In addition, a working bench adjacent to the main counter continues this floating theme through its cantilevered design, with a floor-level window that reveals garden foliage.
Williams Burton Leopardi curated a selection of furniture for comfort, and with purpose, including pieces reminiscent of mid-century design. Custom steel windows and bifold doors surround the north-facing living area to invite the outside in. Outside, crazy paving paired with limestone tiles under a vine-covered pergola creates an ideal space for relaxed weekend reading in the northern sunshine.
Williams Burton Leopardi reimagined a traditional worker’s cottage into a home with all the trimmings; private bathrooms for both bedrooms, separate living spaces and generous-sized bedrooms only add to the impression.
The Williams Burton Leopardi team have brought this character-filled North Adelaide home into the present, with custom details, sophisticated finishes and a strong connection to its outdoor living spaces.
