Inspired by some of my favorite sweets, here are some adorable air fresheners made with colorful felt and fresh essential oils. With Summer just about here, you’ll want to keep your car or house smelling fresh- so why not DIY these cute, colorful air fresheners for your home? Give them away as a gift or keep for yourself to give your space a lovely smell. You can go to your nearest drug store and pick up those boring tree fresheners…or you can make your own. Try it!
Step 1: Start by printing out the Sweet Treats Printable and carefully cutting out each shape.
Step 2: Line up the shapes against the felt. You can use a pin to keep your paper shape in place as you cut the felt. I found it helpful to trace the shape on felt with a pencil and then cut. Once you’re finished cutting, be sure to trim the edges for a smooth finished look.
Step 3: Line up the pieces before adhering them together to ensure that the final product forms cleanly. Grab your glue and begin assembling the larger pieces with spray adhesive. Spray adhesive allows for more even coverage, but regular craft glue will work as well.
Step 4: Once assembled, your cupcake should look something like the image below. Complete this same process with the other cutouts and create the rest of your adorable treats.
Step 5: Now you’ll use your essential oil — which can be found at GNC — to add a fresh scent to the felt. I decided to use lavender because it’s one of my favorite scents, especially for my car. But it’s fun to try some food scents, like orange or tangerine root with a dash of cinnamon. Simply flip over the felt shape you’ve made and sprinkle just a few droplets. Because of the raw nature of the oil, you don’t want to use too much.
The best part about this air freshener is that you can continue to refresh it. Over time as the scent wears off, you can always add more droplets to strengthen the scent. Give these scented treats to your guests as party favors or hand them to your coworkers for around the office. They’re small enough to tuck inside your drawers or drop inside your bag.
For the slice of cake, add little rhinestones as sparkly sprinkles.
Use tiny strips of cardstock to create colorful sprinkles. Loop ribbon onto the back of your felt freshener to hang on doorknobs or the rearview mirror of your car. My day brightens when I see my felt Doughnut hanging from my rearview mirror and you’ll love it too. So experiment with colors and don’t be afraid to come up with some fun shapes of your own. Which is your favorite summer treat? Let me know what you think!
