This new eatery in London’s Pimlico transports diners to the Med, and we just love what the owner’s done with the space.
Goodbye disused pub, hello tapas restaurant and cocktail bar – the lower levels of this heritage-listed building in London have been reimagined as Omar’s Place, a sun-baked space evoking the Mediterranean. Even if the thought of regional flavours served by Mallorcan chef Vicente Fortea, a veteran of Michelin kitchens, doesn’t whet your appetite, the artistic collision of design studio Sella Concept, architects Wilson Holloway and restaurateur/hotelier Omar Shabaan surely will. A circular motif representing the sun is the life force of their design and is repeated throughout in spheres and curves, fluted seating and scalloped timber. In terracotta, peach, sage and teal, suede, velvet, terrazzo and brass, with end-grain wooden floors, the eatery also includes a wine-cellar-like private venue on the level below. It’s just another good reason to book that flight…
TOP Dining chairs by Carl Hansen sit tight with terrazzo-topped tables. ABOVE Like the banquette seating, the Tonella armchairs by Note Design Studio are comfortable and chic. The bar is lit by Pool pendant lights and embellished with Rombini tiles by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.
