In the midst of Sydney’s eastern suburbs, The Nano Pad by Architect Prineas  is an energetic new player on the city’s short-stay accommodation turf. Impressive attention to detail truly radiates through from this intricate design scope, where every element has been considered for functionality, space efficiency and style.

Enhancements that compose of ingenious storage solutions and great space divides really help to complete the apartment design. In the main room a contemporary partitioned wall sits between living and sleeping and creates an intelligent separation. This works amongst the generous ceilings and adjoins at floor level to a raised bed platform, seeing imaginative storage spaces come alive.

Within the heightened flooring generous storage becomes easily accessible in hidden pull up and pull out bespoke joinery, while the TV and media are housed in their own well-designed joinery alcove, opposing the sleeping space. Meanwhile, materials such as lime-washed plywood and rounded black steel add a contemporary Art Deco element to complement the functional elements at work throughout the space.

Both in layout and materiality, space is the aim. Relocation of the existing kitchen to an under-utilised space in the entry gives respectful separation to the relaxing zones, while the bathroom also received some spatial rearranging and the addition of a raised floor level – a clever solution that allowed for easy reconfiguration of plumbing with the new design layout. The savvy addition of sleek mirrors to the walls helps reflect light and enhance views, and the smart use of wall hung joinery makes for a roomier feel and frees up floor space. The addition of concealed lighting to independent joinery pieces creates ambience and enhances independent spaces, while the warming addition of the battened timber flooring and ceiling adds a layer of tactility and texture.
