Cozy and rustic, this mountain home hidden away in the Tetons is a magnificent log construction that has all the creature comforts you could ever want. Situated on the quieter, western slope of Wyoming’s Teton Mountain range, the house is super private and quiet — a true getaway home.

The spectacular home, completely in tune with its surroundings, was designed by Peter Zimmerman Architects and custom home builder Yellowstone Traditions. The architecture was constructed to resemble the old log house that belonged to the original homesteader. Authentic and timeless, the exterior is completely rustic looking and understated, allowing the home to blend naturally.

Positioned to take maximum advantage of the views, the landscaping is natural and low maintenance. Native grasses and plants surround natural stonescapes for a care-free and relaxed outdoor setting. Even the outdoor spaces maintain the natural look with rough-hewn wooden furniture that complements the exterior of the home and carries through the rustic theme.

Inside, the homeowners wanted the house to fit their lifestyle and be very functional. Despite its efficiency, it still has the relaxed flow and wonderful rustic details you want in a mountain hideaway. More importantly, all of the materials used are reclaimed. This is a living room with a view that makes you say “Wow!”  especially with the extra tall window.  Antique oak floors, rustic exposed beams and a massive moss rock veneer fireplace create a space that will draw the family together, especially in snowy weather.

The furnishings in the living room are casual, comfortable and complete the rustic atmosphere without taking it too far. Accessories are minimal and fitting to the rustic theme, focusing on the refined and old-fashioned. Impeccable attention was paid to detail in the decor of this home as everything has a true high-end vintage feeling. Antique or replica, the accessories are beautiful with no trace of shabby chic.

Rustic but refined, this kitchen has everything you need.

The rustic kitchen is a cook’s dream and encompasses 300 square feet of living space. The rough structural beams sit above the soapstone countertops. The reclaimed wormy chestnut wood cabinets are beautiful and would fit well in many a suburban home that has a rustic feel. They feature hardware that is from Montana Sash & Door. The large range has a brick backsplash and an industrial style custom hood.  The lights above the wood-topped island also have a bit of a rustic industrial look and blend wonderfully with the decor.

The dining area of the kitchen is open yet cozy. The view down the length of the space provides a great view of the plank ceilings and beams. The island seating is perfect for chatting with family while cooking meals and the sitting area at the end means everyone else is nearby too.

Wood is the dominant element throughout the house.

This view really conveys how natural the woodwork is around the doorways and throughout the space. The wood is reclaimed and reused but has been polished to subtle gleam that only serves to enhance its beauty. A minimum of accessories in this space keeps the focus on food and the family — and the view!

The reclaimed logs that form the structure of the home are particularly prominent near the stairs. The railing is crafted from pieces of wood and take advantage of the natural curve of a branch for the rail top.  It’s a great idea for a rustic interior because it uses wood that is still in its natural state. This area of the home also puts the log construction and the chinking in between on full display.

This little nook has a charm all its own. The door has a rounded top and is highlighted with rustic hardware. Here the floor is made of flagstones and the boards on the wall run vertically under the stairs, returning to a horizontal placement above the door. A charming area rug with a native American design adds a subtle touch of color.

The home’s master bedroom is the ultimate retreat. The bed faces French doors that afford a gorgeous view as well as direct entry to the outdoors. Thanks to the balcony above, this room also has a large, tall fireplace that adds to the ambiance. At the far end of the room in the window bay, a sofa and chair make a relaxing space for reading, chatting or just watching out the windows. The chandelier over the bed echoes a more relaxed time with its candle-style lamps.

Of course, the master bath features a long soaking tub with a view, which is a must after a long day of hiking or snow sports. A marble vanity top and tub surround add a little understated glam to the rustic bathroom, which is otherwise minimally accessorized.

A glass shower is extra tall and has a stone wall with a built-in seat as its focal point. The same marble from the vanity is repeated on the other walls of the shower, which is accessed through a wide glass door. A rainfall showerhead is an ideal choice for this type of shower where natural relaxation is just as important as getting clean!

One of the bedrooms is almost more like a sleeping space that features extra wide bunk beds. Of course, the ladder is also made from logs and the ceiling light boasts deer antlers. The smallish room can be closed off with a large sliding door. This takes up less space than a traditional swinging door and makes the room feel much more open than if it were enclosed by a wall.

Another bedroom is more traditional and features the pitched roofline, accented on the inside with beams and the varied wood used to construct the walls. Plenty of windows and window seats are found throughout the house, encouraging the occupants to stop and enjoy the view. A comfortable. leather-upholstered armchair is handy for getting dressed or just having a seat.

A small spiral staircase leading to an office area has a one-of-a-kind detail: The central spoke of the staircase is a tree trunk with some of the root extensions still intact. This is a magnificent rustic detail that is also a testament to the natural and reclaimed wood throughout the home. The small desk is just big enough to get a little reading or writing done — a getaway does not need a full office.

A cozy upstairs space serves as another relaxation area with cushy leather chairs and plenty of great views. The linear hanging light fixture is ideal for evenly distributing the light. Just outside the sunken room sits another small desk that is very handy for little tasks or just for setting down a few items.

A large, secluded property like this one should also have an outbuilding, away from the main home. This can serve as a rustic spot for gathering to warm up in snowy weather, or to nap away an autumn afternoon. Not really a guest house, this has a daybed and some seating and is a good place for changing into snowshoes and hiking gear. Or, light a fire and cozy up after a day on the snow, or use the outdoor firepit and enjoy a nice summer evening.
