Admiring these landscape thread painting created by Saskatoon-based artist, Monika Kinner-Whalen. She specializes in freestyle embroidery capturing the Saskatchewan prairies which she has been photographing and exploring. On an interview with Nicki Ault she says this about her work:
“I work by sight (no tracing or templates) and stitch it all onto canvas by free-motion machine and freestyle hand embroidery. I had no teachers for this, although it is a common
technique in the UK where fibre art is not a new idea.”
More of her work can be seen on her website and on Instagram.
