Modern Luxury Abounds in This Historic English Mansion
Deep in the heart of the English countryside stands the Mansion at Sondes Place. Clad in white stucco, it’s a vision of Georgian grandeur. Originally built in 1850 by famed architect Thomas Cubitt, this Surrey Hills estate has recently been transformed into a series of duplexes and penthouses, all of which boast a lavish contemporary twist. Let’s take a closer look at one of the residences in this modern mansion.
Pastoral Bliss
With plenty of greenery and outdoor space, not to mention those commanding views over the Surrey Hills, the Mansion at Sondes Hill is the ideal ‘escape to the country’ pile for those seeking pastoral bliss. However, for us design aficionados, it’s the interiors which has us packing up our city condos ASAP.
Decorating a Modern Mansion
The task of decorating the interiors fell to Italian furniture company, Alivar. Known for their effortlessly luxe aesthetic, it’s no surprise to see that Alivar chose to style the residences of the Mansion at Sondes Place in a beautiful contemporary elegant aesthetic. Think neutral hues matched with clean minimal lines and rich textured accents.
In the living room, unexpected design details add a touch of personality to the space. A statement cow print accent chair, for instance. Or the pops of sunshine yellow. It helps to make the space feel less formal.
The dining room, on the other hand, revels in its grandiosity. It’s the ideal place for a dignified dinner soiree. We especially love how the floor-to-ceiling drapes work to accentuate the height of this space, adding to the splendor of this room.
In contrast to its location in rural Surrey, the kitchens of this modern mansion exudes minimalist chic. A monochrome palette is simple but effective, complemented with glass and chrome accents.
There’s a sleekness to this space, thanks to the handle-less cabinetry and the symmetry of the island. Hanging pendant lights complete the look, bringing depth and dimension to the space.
All the bedrooms in this modern mansion are generously proportioned. Yet these spaces still feel cozy and intimate thanks to the oversize furnishings which anchor the rooms. An abundance of soft furnishings, including faux fur throws and plush carpet, ups the snug factor.
The Best of Both Worlds
Escape to the country with a lavish contemporary twist – the Mansion at Sondes captures the best of both worlds for those who can’t decide between the good life and contemporary city luxe. How would you like to live in this modern mansion?
