Located in Melbourne’s coveted South Yarra neighborhood (Park Street, no less) this airy, two-storey Victorian terrace has been given a new lease on life by local interior designer Fiona Lynch.

The design brief called for a fresh start, and the resulting design has delivered. From a complete reconfiguration of the floorplan to new schemes to the sourcing and in-house design of furniture, the revised design offers a significant overhaul. An emphasis on the executive owner’s ‘lock up and leave’ mentality meant minimal and modern were central to the design of this spacious two-bedroom terrace.

Lynch and her team drew inspiration from Scandinavian aesthetics to forge an urban environment that is understated, yet features accents of luxe European elegance.

The interior embraces a neutral foundation. The warm timber of the black butt floors, white walls, creamy veined marble and considered use of textured, earthy tones in the surrounding furnishings all work together to create a laid-back feeling of restrained refinement.

Punctuated among the mostly neutral palette is the use of black timber joinery and of course – that statement polished brass-clad cabinetry! Both of which add a sense of raw opulence and reflective warmth to the inner-city home.

In combining these elements, the result is a refined urban retreat that’s both unique and well balanced with a nod to its heritage listing. We seriously cannot think of a more perfect space to kick off our shoes, unwind and enjoy a glass of red after a busy day in the office.

Facing the eastern sun, the back room has been divided up to house both kitchen and dining with an armchair for one to catch the morning sun.
