It occurred to me this week when I made this project that bees don’t in fact have to be yellow and black – that’s the beauty of writing a creative blog.
So when I couldn’t find black washi in my stash, I changed it up completely and used my favourite metallic tapes to create adorable, shiny “bumble bees” for summer!
TOOLS & MATERIALS:
Yellow card stock paper2 1/2” circle punch

Metallic washi tape (see bottom of post for shopping guide)

Scissors Glitter card stock in matching colours

Paper trimmer (optional)

Hole punch Small bradsBlack card stock1” circle punch Tape (optional)

DIRECTIONS (PER BEE):

Use the larger of the two punches to make a yellow circle for the bee’s body. Add three strips of tape, then turn over and cut off the over hang. Punch a circle of the same size in the glitter paper and then cut it in half (I used a paper trimmer, but scissors work too). Hole punch opposite corners and add a hole to the top of the bee’s body as well.

Insert a brad through the holes you created and secure it. Use the small circle punch to cut a little more than a semi-circle for the head on the black paper, and slide it behind the wings on the bee. If it doesn’t hold, use tape to secure it.

Total project time: approximately 20 minutes for 6 bees.
