If Sydney’s Potts Point locale is anything to go by at est, you are guaranteed
SJB Interiors have sunk their teeth into their fair share of buildings in Potts Point. The extra-special aspect of working on the Mayfair apartment is the close connection Kirsten Stanisich has with the owner; a friend of 25 years. Being well acquainted, Kirsten could clearly interpret the vision of the owner into elegant and sophisticated dimensions.
It was key the design be led and inspired by the 1920s period the building was built, while maximising space and storage. Together, they worked to overhaul the constricting layout by removing walls in the kitchen and dining space. This may have altered the look of the apartment but in no way did it impact on the antique feel. Where the old couldn’t be accentuated, Kirsten has worked closely with the owner to reconstruct; the bathroom becoming a refined replication of what had been before.
Just as the preserved front facade, the interiors draw on a refreshingly traditional approach. Herringbone tiles and custom-made cabinetry atop with CDK Stone marble remind us of the timelessness in looking to quality materials and craftsmanship. Blessed with the north-east aspect, light bathes the apartment — from the lime-washed floors to the high ceilings. SJB Interiors pay homage to the Art Deco block by introducing playful lamp and pendant lighting. With little wall-hanging art, it is this lighting that generates sculptural interest in each space. The soft furnishings follow a far different path, in muted tones and relaxed textures that rest easy on timber flooring. Adding in a little leafy green, the Mayfair apartment is a stately affair with modern taste.
The 1920s apartment has joined the Potts Point party, leaving behind its daggy and dark interior for all-parts white and refined. A shared passion between owner and designer has left no stone unturned and no historical element forgotten, for a deeply personal and prestigious place to call home.
