Hello, friends and happy Monday to you! I want to show you a brand that has inspired me recently, , from Denmark. Have you heard of them? Below, I’ll introduce you to a few of my favorite pieces to inspire you and to set the week off right. But first, a little background about this Danish brand.
Mater means “mother” in Latin, and was chosen as the brand name by Henrik Marstrand, CEO & founder. Would you like to know why? I was curious too.
“The name [Mater or Mother] is the daily reminder of our small contribution to preventing the challenges ‘mother earth’ faces,” says Henrik. Then he continues, “Design influences how we as humans live our lives; it shapes values, culture, and society. “
The conversation around sustainability and products being produced that are environmentally conscious and ethically made has been around for decades, but never more than right now. This is because we are now seeing and understanding the cause of our actions in the western world.
launched over a decade ago in 2006, so it certainly has earned its reputation as being a brand to trust. As a company, Mater takes great pride in producing products that are well made, ethically sourced, environmentally conscious and support crafting traditions by those who are making each piece so beautifully. Together with freelance designers with whom they collaborate with, Mater creates minimalist high-end furniture and lighting with a clear Scandinavian influence.

Are all of these pieces lovely to behold? They also create products using dark stained beech as well, but if you’ve followed my blog long enough and read my books, you know I’m a sucker for a light and airy mood so I naturally gravitate towards the lighter colored woods.
