Make Habanero-Garlic Infused Vodka

One of my absolute favorite places for food and drinks is Cafe Nola in Frederick, MD. They have a great selection of infused liquor for cocktails—my go-to being the super spicy bloody Mary made using vodka infused with habanero peppers and garlic. You may not be able to get within 3 feet of other people for a few hours after drinking it, but it is SO worth it.

We love super spicy Bloody Marys in our apartment, so I recently decided to try my hand at infusing my own vodka. It’s difficult to say that without sounding pretentious, but it sounds way worse than it really is. I promise. It’s really just about finding the right combination of flavors and letting the vodka soak up all of those flavors for the right amount of time.

I originally wanted to use jalapenos from my garden since we have approximately 100,000 of them about to pop, habanero peppers, and garlic. But I decided to hold off on the jalapenos because I wanted to see what the results would be with only habanero peppers and garlic. Now that I know the result was a-m-a-z-i-n-g, I’m going to try adding in some jalapenos for the next round.

Here’s what you need to make habanero-garlic infused vodka!

  • Mason jar and lid
  • Vodka
  • 6-8 habanero peppers
  • 6-8 garlic cloves
  • Disposable gloves

And here’s how you do it!

Step 1: Pop on your gloves and cut the habanero peppers in half. Remove the seeds and dump them in your mason jar. I suggest disposable gloves because I hate how long the habanero lingers on my fingers. Even after washing my hands several times, I still managed to sting my eye by touching it.

Then peel your garlic cloves and add to the mason jar.

Step 2: Once your habanero peppers and garlic are in your jar, pour in the vodka and pop the jar’s lid on.

Step 3: Store in a cabinet for about a week. I gave it a gentle shake every day and did a smell/taste taste every few days to monitor it.

When it’s done, strain the habanero peppers and garlic out and store the vodka just as you would any other liquor. Enjoy and drink responsibly!
