The Heinz Julen Loft has an interesting story in the sense that, as the name suggests, it was designed by Heinz Julen but before that it actually used to be the designer’s private home. The apartment occupies a beautiful chalet located in the Swiss Alps, in Zermatt, Switzerland. It measures 300 square meters and its interior is organized on two floors, both with large windows and views of the surroundings.

The project overall is a materialization of two concepts: comfort and luxury

The ground floor is a large and open social space which integrates a comfortable lounge space and several other functions

The local designer wanted to make the space feel inviting and most of all comfortable but also wanted to give it a glamorous and luxurious look. This combination wasn’t easy to achieve. The main materials involved in the design are wood, steel, textured concrete and glass. The new design puts an emphasis on space, light and the connection with nature.

The ground floor houses a large and open social area which includes a comfortable seating zone centered around a comfortable sofa as well as a dining space with a really interesting table. The table is illuminated and suspended from the ceiling. It was be lowered and raised at any desired height but also completely lifted to make room for something else.

Glass walls on two sides offer views of the village and the surroundings and the 6 meter high French windows let in lots of natural light while also connecting the interior space to a large terrace. The glass walls also feature a built-in fireplace and three cozy alcoves.

The mezzanine level can be accessed via a metal staircase and up here the floor is made of opaque glass and has inset accent lighting. This level houses a second living space with a sofa, a TV, a jacuzzi tub, a bar and a guest bathroom.

The loft has three bedrooms in total. Two of them have their own en-suite bathrooms and balconies while the master bedroom has a fancy bed on a rotating island, a sofa, a TV and a walk-in wardrobe.

The views are important and the designer made sure to make the most of them

In addition to the staircase there’s also a private elevator that links the two floors. All the exquisite furniture pieces such as the desks, armchairs and even the living room chandelier were created by the designer for this space in particular. Exterior blinds can be operated electronically to offer more privacy when needed.
