Java Wrap pattern by Two of Wands

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve most likely come across one of my most popular patterns – the Coffee Shop Wrap. This design was one of my first collaborations with Lion Brand Yarn, using their 24/7 Cotton, and it’s still one of my favorites to this day. It was my first triangle wrap ever and it’s inspired so many of my designs since, including my latest pattern. I’m so excited to release what I’ve been referring to as the “Coffee Shop Wrap 2.0” … introducing the Java Wrap!

Using a similar color palette, uneven striping, and eyelet rows, the Java Wrap is like a cousin to the Coffee Shop Wrap. In order to give it some characteristics of its own though, I made a few design choices that will help it stand alone. Instead of using all 24/7 Cotton, I picked my favorite of all the colors (Charcoal) and opted to work with one of Lion Brand’s self striping yarns to mimic the original wrap’s color changes. Cupcake yarn in the colorway Cafe au Lait seemed like it was basically made for this wrap, so that was my obvious choice!

Next, I decided to use a different construction for this wrap. I went with a side-to-side technique which starts at one of the wide diagonal edges, and decreases every other row along one edge to form a triangle. The best part about this pattern is that each row gets shorter so you really feel like it is flying off the needles toward the end! The result is a large deep triangle that can be worn as a shawl or with the center point in front and ends wrapped around as a scarf.

I opted to work in garter rows using the Cupcake yarn to really show off the color gradient, and in simple lace rows with the 24/7 Cotton to keep this wrap light and airy for warmer months. It’s been my go-to for a light layer to take along to meetings, cafes, and restaurants that have the AC on blast. Read on for the free pattern, purchase a printer-friendly/ad-free PDF here, or grab the full yarn kit from Lion Brand here.

When I designed the Coffee Shop Wrap there was a huge demand for a crochet version, so I quickly released the Tea House Wrap for my hookers. And this time I already have a crochet version ready for you! Check out my free pattern for the Early Grey Wrap (aka the Tea House Wrap 2.0) here!

Java Wrap pattern by Two of Wands

To make tassels, cut ninety 10”/25cm lengths and six 18”/46cm lengths of color B. Divide the 10”/25cm lengths into 3 groups of 30. Tie each bundle at the middle point with one of the 18”/46cm lengths. Fold each bundle in half so that the tie is at the tip of the loop created with the fold. Tie crosswise around each folded bundle about 1⁄2”/1.25cm below top of fold with remaining 18”/46cm lengths. Wrap the tails of the ties around and around the bundles and then thread them inside and down the middle of the bundles with a tapestry needle. Tie the tops of the tassels onto the 3 corners of the wrap and knot to secure. Thread the tails inside and down the middle of the tassels using a tapestry needle. Trim tassels to desired length.
