Started the sewing year safe with something basic, minimal and just about work appropriate with a long vest. And if you’re thinking gahh is she ever gonna stop with the ruffles – No.

TOOLS:
Fabric (I used a thick crepe) 1.5 m of full width  Pins  Scissors  |  Thread & Sewing machine
I. My front and back cut pieces (I’m EU36/US4):

.. And sleeves:

II. First sewed the shoulders and finished the neckline with a simple fold.

III. Then prepped my sleeves with a fold at the hem (I stopped the stitch about 3 cm from the edge where the white mark is to make it easier to eventually do the sleeve underseam).

IV. Then I made 3 straps for ruffle. Two 70 cm pieces for sleeves and one 80 cm piece for the neckline. More on that here.

V. I added my basting stitch to the straps and gathered them. I was debating whether to put them at the edge of the sleeve, or just above, and eventually decided on edge thanks to power of an Instagram story poll.
VI. Then I added the more narrow ruffle to the neckline. Last was just the assembly of the dress – sleeve underarms (and then attaching the ends of the ruffle that I had left loose earlier) and side seams..
.. Plus hemming.
xo,
Julia
