There’s no shortage of picturesque towns amongst the alpine region near Mont Blanc. One of the most charming has to be Saint-Gervais, a small village with a storybook charm. Boasting turn of the century architecture and sweeping views across the Mont Blanc mountain range, it feels like an illustration of a storybook come alive.

No surprise that the accommodation on offer is just as charming. Small boutique hotel La Feline Blanche may only have ten rooms but each one is well-worth a booking if you can manage to snatch a space.

Named for the fluffy angora cat that belongs to the owners, La Feline Blanche sits in the heart of Saint-Gervais. Eschewing the chalet-camp of the larger hotels and resorts, the hotel was designed by Maison Hand, favouring a neutral colour palette and cosy mood. Wood panelling features throughout the communal areas and suites, warm linens line the beds and the rooms are refined yet comfortable.

Unlike so many of the larger venues in the area, the communal areas at La Feline Blanche actually feel communal, with open shelves ready with all manner of serving ware and large white-lacquered Atelier de Saint-Paul tables with an assortment of white dining chairs to pull up somewhere to eat. Breakfast is complimentary and includes homemade croissants – need we say more? And at the end of a long day on the slopes, what better place to curl up than in the lounge on one of the white Gervasoni sofas designed by Paola Navone, preferably with a warm drink in hand.

The bedrooms are well-appointed and generously sized (for European hotels anyway), reminiscent of your own timber cabin amongst the elements. Heavy wooden curtains from Arpin and earthy linen from Bergan will keep you warm through the night and in the morning the view across the town and surrounding alps rival any artwork.

For those who prefer a ski holiday that concentrates on (shock) skiing, Saint-Gervais is a well-positioned base without the bustle of the busier ski spots. La Feline Blanche is a breath of mountain fresh air for anyone alpine-bound who is seeking style and warmth from their winter accommodation.

Each of the ten rooms feels like its own wood-panelled cabin, complete with an emphasis in lounging in bed or on one of the Ghost chairs from Paola Navone.
