Scandinavian home decor loft apartment

Scandinavian home decor loft apartment

For my latest Scandi home tour, I’m sharing this beautiful loft apartment. If you love Scandinavian decor, you will fall in love with this space as it has so much to inspire us and lots of ideas to steal too.

There is sometimes a tendency to decorate loft apartments in an ultra modern, stripped back style.  But not in this space.  Here the natural light, the bright white colour, the materials used and the exposed beams all create a space that is so special.

This is a large apartment measuring approximately 1600 sq ft (149sqm) and has three bedrooms.  While there is so much to love throughout the space, that open plan living/dining/kitchen is what steals the show for me.  This apartment, though spacious, does have challenges being a loft with all the low and slanted ceilings.  But it’s the way in which the character of the loft has been incorporated in to the decor that makes it work so well.

Maximising natural light is key to Scandinavian decor as they have so much darkness throughout the year.  No matter where you live though, maximising natural light is always a good idea because it has health benefits as well as decor benefits.  Here there are skylights throughout the home which lets in all the light and looks great in this loft space. We can’t all add skylights to our home but we can do things to get more natural light.

There is another standout factor here which is an idea we can all steal.  That is the abundant use of different neutral toned textures throughout this home.  We have different stones, wood, linen, rattan, jute and so much more.  Also the exposed dark wood beams look great against the white walls and provide a nice contrast to the light wood floors.

Although it can be challenging to decorate in a space where the walls are low and angled, this living space really comes together because it is entirely open plan.  The kitchen is in the middle of the open plan space with the bright, airy living room on one side and the dining room on the other. This layout is really practical too as both living and dining rooms have easy access to the kitchen.

Speaking of the kitchen, I love how older styles have been mixed with modern.  You’ve got an old fashioned oven – probably an original feature – along side a much more modern kitchen.  There’s the lovely contrast of light and dark wood in here and that exposed brick wall that’s been painted white adds to the character of this space.

All three of the bedrooms follow the colour scheme of the house – lots of white with touches of mainly black, beige and grey. Once again we have lots of texture in the bedrooms and contrasting wood tones. In the main bedroom, I love the position of the desk just under that roof window – a great spot for working.

Apart from the use of neutral tones, lots of texture and natural light which are all key elements of Scandinavian decor, the rooms all have empty floor space.  This makes any space feel bigger and brighter, no matter how big or small.  It gives a room breathing space if you like.

Apart from the master bedroom and the kids room, there is a spare bedroom which is quite awkward shaped due to the sloping ceilings.  But they have made the most of the space – I love the cosy little nook they’ve created where the ceilings are really low. It’s such an inviting space to relax, read or play some games.

The last space I want to share from this apartment is the entryway.  I love the contrast of the marble floor against the warm wood.  Also marble is so practical as it’s easier to clean when you walk in with dirty shoes.

This loft apartment is just stunning, don’t you think?
