H&M’s £30 Shacket Is Making the Fashion Crowd Lose Their Cool
Eleven years ago, I went into a Salvation Army shop and found a blue and white check jacket that was the perfect thickness for autumn. Either worn over jeans or with a slip skirt it’s a piece I pull out of my wardrobe over and over ever since. What I’m saying is that when you buy a decent plaid shacket—brand new or second-hand—you’ll never get rid of it. It’s a piece that will definitely last. Perhaps it’s because of the grunge “trend” that has never really disappeared since it first came to light in the nineties, or maybe it’s because this just so happens to be a classic casual piece that’s durable.
If you’re in the market for such an item, then I have some incredibly good news for you: There are loads of them around on the high street right now with H&M’s brown and white checked one (£30—and from their Conscious range, so double-win) currently leading the pack. It has been spotted on Who What Wear columnist Monikh (she styled hers with an orange and brown pleated dress and sandals) as well as another London girl we always shop from, Emma Hill. It’s the start of something people.
Our shopping editor Joy Montgomery found a great alternative in M&S this week, and wore it with a suede mini skirt and knee-high Zara boots. We’ve also seen many a streetwear aficionado using this kind of shacket to pep up a simple jeans/sneaks/jumper combination. See what I mean about it being versatile? You could well be looking at the jacket trend of the season, only it’ll last a lifetime. Keep scrolling to see how girls are wearing the popular H&M style, shop it for yourself and discover the other ones we rate right now.
