Historic Stone Church Turned Into a Modern Home

This particular property has an interesting history and once served as a renaissance era church before being abandoned. Recently the property’s new owners decided to give it a new lease on life and Garmendia Cordero Architects converted the historic church into a functional, modern loft.

Garmendia Cordero made use of the building’s tall ceiling and built a loft above their main lounge area, which now serves as a master bedroom. As the master bedroom is left open, the owners have the luxury of being able to look straight down onto their lounge and kitchen.
Leading up to the master bedroom is a set of chic floating wooden stairs. As individuals walk up the home’s floating stairs they’ll be treated to a view of the owners most loved paintings.
The kitchen itself has been designed to fit into a traditional alcove and features a small, versatile kitchen island. While the glass dining table and its funky red and white chairs are one of the main features of the property’s open planned living and dining area.
As the converted church has kept its original stonework, its owners have placed a series of eye-catching, mismatched rugs underneath their furniture. In order to make their house seem more like a home and less like a converted church.
Another main feature in the open plan lounge is its large, three-person burgundy leather sofa, which is a timeless piece that doesn’t look out of place in a converted church or in a modern family home.
Right next to the sofa, you’ll find a feature wall which has been covered in a black and white abstract piece of art. Proof that it’s possible to turn a historic property into a modern property which expresses your own sense of style. Another way that the owners of this creative home display their personality is by hanging a bicycle from the underside of their master bedroom.

This beautiful property also boasts a one of a kind bathroom which features original stonework as well as a small chandelier and a small sink which is built into a small antique table. While the bathroom is on the small side its walls are covered in a mish-mash of paintings. Such as a portrait of Jesus, a quaint landscape painting and a modern painting of a contemporary woman.
