Gwyneth Paltrow Just Revisited the Outfit She First Wore 22 Years Ago
Gwyneth Paltrow is in London this week for the opening of the Goop shop within Harvey Nichols, and at an event to launch the space she returned to an outfit that she first wore 22 years ago. The satin green skirt and top by Donna Karan which she wore in the film Great Expectations in1998 is one of those outfits which is constantly trending on Pinterest, and is considered the epitome of easy summer dressing. In London this week, Gwyneth wore a dress by Tse with an in-built satin maxi skirt and a rollneck top in the exact same shade of green, proving its an outfit that remains just as relevant two decades later.
This year many of us have revisited the minimalist aesthetic that Calvin Klein made the height of cool in the ’90s, wearing fuss-free satin slip dresses and skirts, a muted colour palette, straight leg denim, sweeping duster coats and strappy sandals. It is a uniform that is all about simplicity, however, it has an attitude thanks to leather pieces, oval sunglasses and chunky footwear that give basics a tougher edge. Kate Moss is often considered the original adopter of this way of dressing, but Gwyneth Paltrow also wore a leopard print coat and satin robe better than anyone.
Just like Kate Moss, Gwyneth’s look was artfully disheveled, as she lived in her black suede Adidas Gazelles, leather jackets that look like they could have been borrowed from her boyfriend (who was Brad Pitt at the time) and straight-cut Levi’s. She wore the oval sunglasses, weighty leather slides and minimal tote bags that cool girls are revisiting all over again.
