Golde globes awards 2018 #TimesUp
Big Little Lies cast

Más  de Time’s Up

 ……….

The last 7th of January was celebrated the 75 ª  Golden Globes, award that celebrates the best of film and television, this time with a dramatic turn thanks to the initiative started by more than 300 actresses in Hollywood Time’s Up, a campaign against sexual abuse and wage inequality that dye black the red carpet;giving a message of equality despite the genre where the critics were not received, all looked good, all people for the same noble cause that favors women’s empowerment.

More than Time’s Up

After the publication of the scandalous article in the New York Times about the abuses committed by Harvey Weinstein to more than eighty Hollywood women, the world began to react by breaking silence thousands of women who have been sexually harassed not only in the entertainment industry but in everywhere,  popularized the #MeToo hashtag promoted by Alyssa Milano where the affected publicly denounce sexual harassing. From there the authorities and companies concerned have suspended and dismissed thousands of “important” men in consequence including  Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, James Toback, Charlie Rose, Mark Halperin, Matt Lauer, Bill Clinton, Roy Moore, among others.

On January 1 the time up activist movement formed by more than 300 participants in the entertainment industry including Natalie Portman, Emma Watson, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon (producer and actress of the series Big Little Lies), Asheley Judd (victim of Weinteins and Person of the Year according to Time), Taylor Swift (Person of the Year with Judd, Susan Fowler, Adama Yiwu and Isabel Pascual representing people who spoke of sexual abuse and harassment) , Shonda Rhimes, Eva Longoria, Emma Roberts, among others, continuing with the purpose of the hashtag this time deepening it and creating a special non-profit fund to help victims of such a problem. This movement is put in relation to #HeforShe another campaign that protects women, this time with the help of solidarity men, where many Hollywood artists are faithful ambassadors.

The awards and the women’s empowerment

Days before the annual awards ceremony, the campaign contributors Time’s Up have announced their inclination for black that night, ie all wore black as a symbol of mourning and Intolerance to abuse and inequality that has been living in Hollywood, making it later in an official uniform, hundreds of artists joined the initiative also supporting the use of the representative pin to make the cause more powerful. Many declined their white, bright and colourful suits for black a color that represented them all that night.

From the beginning of the carpet the rise of empowered women was noticeable in each of the interviews no longer mattered   what you were wearing or your nomination just if you supported the cause and why? Each speech was more touching than the other and the time for transmission had not even come.

The red carpet was special and different not only by the fact of being completely black, well almost… but by the affection and the union of the entertainment for a cause, strong women wore suits their haute couture  differing thanks to the very well selection of accessories and this time the men seemed to yield a bit of equality forming part of the movement with their respective pins and their more solidarity words to the movement, although the real stellar is taken by each of the Hollywood women who attended the event and obvious they supported all this by turning it into something else that would endure in history.

Already starting the awards we saw a bit of sarcasm and jokes on the part of the host Set Meyers related to the subject, especially against the main aggressors. Then the nominations began this time presented mostly by women previously rewarded or simply important part of the cinema and television a small but equally significant change; From then on feminist speeches began to come out first Nicole Kidman who won best drama actress in a mini series or limited series by Big Little Lies (a series precisely of powerful women struggling against problems of society), then each of the speeches was about what happened, especially those that show not only in their role if not as people who are strong women and decide such as Kate Moss protagonist by the Haindmale or the atar actress of Lady Bird: Saoirse Ronan.

Later, the time comes for Oprah that literally moves everyone including me with her precious words: “So I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon! And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘Me too’ emphasizing that your time’s up, argument that continued with the delivery of the director of the year where Natalie Portman include in a sentence all the above mentioned: “Here are the all-male nominees,”  agood dagger for the foreign press, right? Equally did Barbra Streisand argued We need more women directors and more women to be nominated for best director. There are so many films out there that are so good directed by women.” a gesture to defense of Greta Gerwin Director of Lady Bird a resounding success that still did not earn her nomination.

Ending with this encounter full of social and political controversies, is announced the winner of the night “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri “ another movie starring a great woman Frances McDormand who plays a mother who claims justice for the murder of your daughter something strong isn’t it?
